3. Port Au Prince Memorial

This memorial is dedicated to the innocent crew of the Port Au Prince who were killed in 1806 by the order of Chief Finau ‘Ulukakala, killing all crews except 5 survivors. One of those survivors was a 15 year old boy William Mariner where the chief took as an adopted son.

4. Shirley Waldemar Baker

About 800m north of Pangai, the grave and monument of the imperious-looking Reverend Doctor Shirley Waldemar Baker (1836-1903), Tonga’s revered first prime minister and adviser to King George Tupou I, stands amid the graves of various 19th- and early- 20th- century German and English traders and missionaries. A Tongan cemetary, with decorated sand and coral mounds, is directly opposite.

Birthplace of George Tupou 1 in Tongaleleka Ha’apai. Now located main hospital of Ha’apai.

7. Mystery Cross

October 6, 1975 Rev, Kalavite ‘Uhila the Minister in Charge of Young People and Evangelisim Ministries was on his way to church at 5am when he saw a bright light in the church ground on the Free Wesleyan church at Pangai Ha’apai. The lights have now gone out but the layout of the mysterious cross is still embedded on the ground.
